OASIS -- NEW SECURITY

ENHANCEMENT IS HERE NOW

The Credit Union at the University of Chicago has enhanced the security of our internet (PC) banking, called OASIS On-Line.  The enhancement will make it exceedingly difficult to be victimized by a phishing scam.  When you use OASIS on or after December 27, 2006  for the first time, you will be asked a series of ten questions.  These questions pertain to your personal preferences such as "What is your favorite color?"  When answering these questions for the first time you are creating a data base for yourself in which the questions and answers are stored.  Later each time you enter OASIS you will be randomly asked to answer one of those questions.  It will be important for you to remember your original answers and then to enter the response in exactly the same way.  The responses are not case sensitive, however spelling and punctuation (if any ) must exactly match.  This is an additional level of security entered after your user name and password.  In order to proceed to your accounts in OASIS, you must enter the user name, password and the answer correctly.

Just like your passwords, the Credit Union will not have access to the responses to your questions.  We cannot look them up for you which of course protects the integrity of this whole process.

Why is this change being made now?  The enhancement is being made for two reasons (1) to comply with the new law and (2) to protect your account from illicit access.  All other financial institutions will be adding additional security of one type or another.

NEW SURCHARGE FREE ATM AT THE CREDIT UNION

INSTALLED IN JANUARY 2007

The Credit Union at the University of Chicago is pleased to announce that we have installed another sur-charge free ATM.  This ATM is located right at the Credit Union and accessible from the hallway so that you can use it even when we are closed. 

 Because this is our own ATM when you use your CUUC ATM card there will be no ATM surcharge and no 75c transaction fee.  (Other cardholders are subject to an ATM surcharge.) 

The ATM is located on the lower level of the Administration Building of the University of Chicago, 5801 South Ellis Avenue in Chicago.  Simply take the elevator down and it is slightly to your right. Whenever you use this ATM with either of the 2 ATM or ATM/Debit Cards that we offer, there is no ATM surcharge.  This is in addition to our very popular sur-charge FREE ATM in the lobby of the UC Hospitals DCAM at 5801 S. Maryland.

If you do not have an ATM card from us, consider the money saving convenience of opening your checking account here and getting the CUUC card.  You can also use your card around town, around the world and when you shop on the internet. And remember that you can withdraw from both your SAVINGS and CHECKING account with the same card, which is issued free to you.

TIP……

If you are accustomed to withdrawing by check from your savings account and then cashing that check somewhere else (and possibly paying a fee to cash it), you can now accomplish the same thing with this FREE ATM and save yourself a second stop somewhere else!

New! Overdraft Protection Enhancement

Sometimes you may write a check and find that your account balance has less than needed to pay the check.  No problem!  You can avoid the embarrassment and expense of a "Not Sufficient Funds" returned check by signing up for our overdraft protection.  And if you already have it, there is a nice enhancement that we made with our Computer System Upgrade on July 18, 2006.  Here is how it works:

If a check is presented to us for which you do not have sufficient funds (including an ACH debit) with Overdraft Protection we will automatically transfer the amount that you need from your savings account (suffix 1 account), in the exact amount needed (formerly it was in $50 increments).  There is a small $5 service charge which is taken at the same time.  Because we transferred enough money from your savings account to the checking account, we can pay the check and you avoid an "NSF" fee as well as difficulties and possible fees on the other side.  If you have not yet signed up for our Overdraft protection, why not do so now?
